Series Details
This four-part book (10 CE credits) will be revolutionary because it brings to an end the ambiguity over what’s considered by dental boards and malpractice cases. Every dentist wants to know what’s expected for the procedures they do and the parameters for the standard of care. Consider this book a “bible” for standards of care and how not to get in hot water with the law while performing dentistry. Topics covered in detail include fixed and removable; oral surgery; oral conscious sedation; pediatric dentistry; local anesthetics; implant placement; hierarchy of restorative space required for different types of dental implants; vertical dimension of occlusion; and radiography. The course also provides samples of dental consultant reports. This is a must for all dentists and their staff to keep their patients safe from harm—and themselves safe from the law.

Dr. Dovgan has been retained as an expert in the area of dental standard of care throughout the United States. He has been a continually practicing full-time dentist for over 30 years and currently practices full time in Phoenix, Arizona. He has been a board approved consultant for over 25 years, adjudicating more than 1,300 dental board cases in Arizona. Responsibilities as a consultant include review of dental complaints and finding deviations from the standard of care. Dr. Dovgan has adjudicated cases that include failure to diagnose, failure to treat dental conditions, dental fraud, inadequate treatment, over treatment, death of a patient, over sedation, inappropriate behaviors of a doctor and/or staff, inadequate clinical practice, inadequate treatment planning, appropriateness of care, and board generated cases due to malpractice settlements or awards. Dr. Dovgan is a governor approved dental expert witness for the State of Arizona for the Parsons V. Ryan class action lawsuit and his reports were accepted by the 9th district court. He is also an Attorney General approved dental expert witness for the State of Michigan for the Johannes v. Hayes class action lawsuit and his reports were accepted by the 6th district court. Lastly. Dr. Dovgan currently consults and provides expert reports to the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners. He developed the only board-approved template accepted by the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners in 2009 for the appropriateness of care. This template was used by dental consultants and Board members and was used by both dental schools in Arizona as an appropriateness of care outline. This template is also used in dental schools throughout the United States. Dr. Dovgan teaches dental consultants and Board members throughout the United States regarding the standard of care by utilizing past consultant reports he has done, case examples with requisite outcomes, his developed template, and his online lecture “Forensic Dentistry and the Standard of Care.” Dr. Dovgan also educates regarding deviation from the standard of care, mitigating circumstances, aggravating circumstances, and preparation of a consultant summary. Dr. Dovgan has been retained as a dental expert witness in over 140 malpractice cases for both defendants and plaintiffs throughout the United States since the beginning of 2010 due to his expertise in the standard of care. He has over 3,500 hours of continuing education, including advanced training in prosthetics (both removable and fixed), dental implants, risk management, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Computer-Aided Design (CAD/CAM), Cone Beam Computer Tomography (CBCT), full mouth reconstruction, digital x-rays, and lasers (both hard and soft tissue).
